Inspired by the lunar eclipse in Pisces in August 2026, and sister painting to the Solar Eclipse August 2026. Based on ‘lunar geometry’ to divide the circle into 28 based on 4 × 7 = 28, often considered to be a moon cycle (though in reality this is closer to 29.5 days). The 28 pointed star contains the moon phases moving from dark moon to full moon, gilded with palladium leaf. At the centre is the ‘blood moon’ so called due to the effect of the lunar eclipse causing the moon to glow red. Beneath the moon is a dark sea to represent the element of water associated with the sign of Pisces, noted with the astrological glyph.
Painted on a background wash of rose madder, using iridescent watercolours from A.Gallo from Florence, Italy and a sparkling night sky using handmade watercolour.
The paper is custom made from Two Rivers in Somerset, UK and measures 50 × 50cm complete with deckled edge.
